what we're hearing in 2024

Amplifying the voices of Bible college leaders around the world

The speed and persistence of change on a global scale has been massive in recent years. Not only has it impacted us here in Australia, but theological colleges around the world have been forced to adapt and innovate as they try to keep pace. It is a priority for us to be listening to the leaders of our college partners to understand their unique perspectives. As they grapple with change, how can we best support them in a manner that is tailored to their local contexts?

Fresh from his recent travels to Bible colleges in the Majority World, Local Leaders’ board member and global theological education expert, Dr Perry Shaw, is the person to help us understand the current landscape.

With three decades of teaching experience, and many years consultancy with theological institutions worldwide, Perry will share his distilled wisdom with us in May.

This is a unique opportunity for our supporters to hear from one of the world’s leading experts in thinking culturally for theological education. Perry is adept at helping Westerners to think cross-culturally and has published extensively on that theme.

In fact, his influential book ‘Transforming Theological Education’ is one of Langham Publishing’s best-sellers and is highly regarded globally. Focusing on how to do theological education well in non-western contexts, the book (and Perry himself) is inspiring Christian leaders and theologians in hundreds of colleges around the world.

Currently serving as Researcher in Residence at Morling College in Sydney, Perry and his family served in the Middle East from 1990 to 2019. During the final decade, he held the position of Professor of Education at Arab Baptist Theological Seminary (ABTS) in Beirut, Lebanon. His instrumental role in developing ABTS’s innovative curriculum led to a significant position as a faculty development consultant for theological schools worldwide. This consultancy work continues today, alongside his research role in Australia.

Reflecting on his recent travels, Perry will shed light on the needs expressed by Bible colleges in the Majority World.

How are they innovating? What are the current trends? And how are colleges emerging from the pandemic?
